Union Bank Employees’ Co-operative Credit Society Ltd. was registered on 23rd September 1961 with Registration No. 39/CAL. Registered under the Bengal Co-operative Society Act. 1940

It is way back in 1961 when Union Bank Employees Co-operative Credit Society Ltd. was established. Out of the 12 Directors, names of only three Directors- Sri Santi Bardhan,Late Sambhu Mitra and Sri Y.E.Basrai are available with the present administrative body of the society.It is heard that the paucity of fund , on account of low salary, with a particular employee of the bank for meeting his various social needs led the then leaders of employees movement in the bank, specifically Sri Santi Bardhan to think over the necessity of founding such a society where the employees would be able to save according to their capacity and the society would also extend its lending to the employees. This was, in fact, the germination of society's seed that has become a banyan tree now under the shadow of which the members are comfortably enjoying various facilities.

It can happily be claimed that the democratic functioning, total transparency and adherence to rules and, of course, looking to the needs of the employee members are the backbone of the present success of the society. The ethics of by the members, of the members and for the members that instilled in the objective of the society have identified it with the greater objective of co-operative movement.
